Use Facebook and Linked in... Mostly for socializing, rather than work. I think Linked-in would be ok if I was a larger firm looking for a qualified employee. It is good for getting feedback on your particular industry. Other forums can also be handy as an adjunct to trade literature to find out other people's real world experience with products/laws/regulations/practices.
Still can't see Twitter as relevant.

YES. In fact I just attended an internet marketing seminar in Novi, MI. Social Media plays a hugeee part in business now a days and I'm now listed and active on all major social networks. I'm a young internet enthusiast and I believe there are tons of construction companies stuck in the past when it comes to marketing. Print advertising is dying while internet advertising is increasing exponentially.

I'm using Twitter almost daily to post news and info. I'm on Facebook and am now starting to see visits and get phone calls from clients.
Social marketing has also increased my SEO visibility on Google as they are doing more with social networking sites.
I'm now on the first page of almost every search term under the organic listings (not paid for) as a result.
