Eighteen people were injured in a pair of deck collapses over the Easter weekend. In Tennessee, a 5-month-old child and an elderly woman were listed in critical condition after the second-story deck they and four others were on collapsed without warning. Investigators said that the woman's legs were trapped under the deck, but haven't identified what caused the collapse.
And in a separate incident, 12 juveniles were hurt when the deck of a Poconos rental property that they were staying at collapsed on Saturday evening, April 15. Pennsylvania State Police are investigating that incident, which occurred at Saw Creek, a gated community in Lehman Township, Pennsylvania. The home—which rents for a weekend price of $666 per night, with a two-night minimum—sleeps 24 guests and has almost 600 square feet of deck, according to its Airbnb description.
