In the North Carolina beachfront community of Emerald Isle, a second deck has collapsed not far from the house where a deck failed in July. Authorities report the 6-foot by 20-foot deck was holding nine people at the time it failed. Several people suffered cuts and bruises, but there were no life-threatening injuries reported. That may have been because the structure was only 5 feet off the sand. Sixteen people were taken to the hospital over the July 4 weekend when the deck at a nearby house collapsed.
