The project concerns installing a composite deck around an existing swimming pool.
The pool has a solid concrete surround outside the coping stones, we have to keep the decking as low to the ground as possible so that the decks edge is not to high poolside.
There is also the issue of how to finish off the decks facia at the pool's edge and how best to support the deck especially at the pools coping stone as they have a typical curved finish to them.
Any feedback would be appreciated

Neil,
The first deck I built was around a pool. I laid the decking perpindicular to the pool. One difference is that the above ground pool was not round (a 20 sided object to be exact). I've attached some pics.

thanks for the reply, my particular problem is that the pool has a concrete surround at the same level as the pool coping. I am looking for the best way to keep the height down at the pools edge, and ideas on how to finish the facia at the pool's edge. We intend to use Timbertech decking.

Neil, Can you post a photo if you haven't already solved this issue?

Without totally demolishing the concrete to make room for a support system under the decking you will have to fabricate some kind of blending piece to fill in between the decking and coping. I have heard of people laminating decking together and milling it to a quarter round or similar shape.
Some caution about composites surrounding pools. The chlorine in the pool water can and probably will lead to some bit of accelerated fading where the deck gets and stays wet. The other problem will be to maintain the ability to clean under the decking to prevent mold growth and for debris removal in order to keep the pool clean.

Have a look at www.evolution-deck.com for a new galvanized steel decking system that can be finished in stone or concrete pavers. I understand this system can be installed at grade level. Not sure if they are in your area, but they are looking for dealers and installers.

It is important to insure that the deck is sufficiently flat to allow the unit to rest on its' outer flanges once installed. Some existing decks may have excessive slopes or elevation changes, which may preclude proper installation. In these situations a portion or all of the deck may have to be removed and replaced or the unit may have to be re-located to a more suitable location.
