jbjbuild, how are you? I've priced, sold, and paid labor using a sf and linear foot estimating method for 19 years. I guess I'm still "Old School" and have not felt I needed to change. It's that old "not broke, don't fix", way of thinking. I realize there are many other estimating methods out there, that in fact, may be better or more efficient. Some aspects of the job ofeten come down to an estimated time thing, but most items can be priced as we both appear to be doing. I noticed you live in Ohio and like to fish and hunt. More important than the sf stuff is, what do you like to hunt? Bobby Parks

Bobby,
When I can find the time I like to hunt deer & squirrel. I am interested in getting into turkey hunting also and was going to do that this fall, but it looks like I will have to wait until next spring. I'm really more of a fisherman than a hunter, the main thing I fish for is bass, but you will find me fishing for crappie and bluegill also.

Jeff? My advice is to stay away from turkey hunting. It will become an obsession, not a passion, and you may fall behind in deck building production and end up divorced. I used to deer hunt and bass fish. Good area for both. I' got in to turkey hunting 15 years ago and there is nothing I love to do more. I 'm lucky enough to have a 1600 lease that I share with one other friend. It's next to Jeff Foxworthy and Bill Jordan of realtree hunting property in Pine Mountain GA. Anyway, I know we're supposed to talk about decks, so I'll say this. I build as many decks as I can and try to be profitable so that I can pay my lease, travel to Texas and Montana to hunt turkeys.
