Footings for wood deck

Can the posts for my wood deck be put directly int the cement just like a fence post or do i have to make pads. My deck is going to be 24 inches of the ground.

We sink all our posts in concrete....we use a brick or gravel at the bottom to give the bottom of the post drainage. We also ramp up the cement around the base so that dirt and water can't sit above the concrete. Third [and this is only for extreme circumstances] you can treat the area of the post that will be in the cement with preservative or stain before cementing.
