I have 22 4X4 posts supporting my deck, that are rotted on the bottom. When the deck was built 15 years ago the posts were put on top of the cement footer. Just wood sitting on concrete. What is the best way to repair these? I have heard of metal pads that go under the post but have not been able to find them. The rot on the bottom is anywhere from minimal to about 1-1'2 inches. Suggestions are appreciated - thank you

I'm don't know where you're located but HD and Lowes should have some 4" bases that would work. Simpson (www.strongtie.com) and USP ( www.USPconnectors.com) makes these types of bases.

The fact that your cedar post were at least on top of a footing has bought you this much time in terms of delayed rot.
You will probably find that the rot has extended higher into the core of the 4x4s than what you're seeing from the side at the bottoms. Cedar post tend to rot in a cone fashion in a way that may creat a situation whrer just adding bases may not be enough.

Hopefully by using a base with a 1" standoff ( raised base") you'll be able to cut off the rotted ends and re install. It would be a good idea to coat the cut ends with a sealer before installing.
