Some dogs are luckier than others. One that is fortunate enough to belong to a resident of this apartment building can enjoy a first-class view of downtown Seattle while attending to business on his or her own semi-private “doggie relief area.”

The 10-by-10-foot space is part of a recent 3,000-square-foot rooftop deck makeover by BHD Construction, of nearby Bothell, Wash. The fire hydrant is just for show, but there is a functioning built-in sprinkler system to help “flush” the artificial micro turf, which was installed over organic pellets to help control odors. The decking is Trex Select, installed with Screw Products’ C-Deck screws.

Dog owners—and other residents of the complex—don’t fare too badly, either. The project also includes a double barbecue area complete with a built-in refrigerator; wind screens to control the breezes and block noise from the nearby freeway; planters and gardening bins; and a couple of cedar pergolas—one equipped with a hanging bed. One question: Are dogs allowed on the furniture?
