The caller asked only that her 10-year-old stamped concrete patio be resealed. But when Steve VandeWater, of The Concrete Store, in Fishers, Ind., took a look, he realized it would need a lot more than that. The concrete surface hadn't been sealed since it was installed, and a contractor who raised sunken sections of the patio had patched mud-jacking holes with white compound. In addition, the surface showed cracks up to 3/4 inch wide. Gaps around the perimeter were not only ugly but would allow water to get in and cause the slab to sink again.
