This three-story deck and screened porch, built by Pfeifer Building Co., Peachtree City, Ga., complements the scale of the existing home and adds architectural interest to what was previously a dull expanse of brick. To waterproof the decks above the tongue-and-groove wood ceilings in the first- and second-story areas, Pfiefer installed a modified bitumen roofing membrane under the decking material, following the manufacturer’s specs for spacing to allow ventilation. The decking is TimberTech Floorizon, in tropical teak, and the railings were built on site by Pfeifer, with Fortress balusters. — Laurie Elden
