At the DeckExpo last month, I met Shelby Gamache, a graduate research assistant in the University of Minnesota's Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering. They had a small booth set up on the show floor, where I learned a little bit about some of the programs offered by the school. Gamache also told me about a survey that the school was conducting at the show. A joint effort with the school's Natural Resources Research Institute, the goal of the survey is to better understand the needs and priorities of deck industry pros as they relate to wood decking and decking-related wood products. Gamache explained that information generated by the research would then be used to help entrepreneurs, established industry, and organizations that support the forest products industry. And while there was good participation at the show, she's still looking for as many qualified survey participants as she can find, and promises to share the final results with those who take the survey. To sweeten the pot, you'll also be able to throw your name into a drawing for a $200 Amazon gift card. Answers to survey questions will be kept strictly confidential, and no company information will be disclosed. Importantly, Gamache points out that this study has no commercial purposes and is strictly academic in nature. To take the survey, follow this link.
