Trex has a redesigned the post flashing for its RainEscape deck drainage system. The new PVC collar fits snugly around the post and prevents moisture from working its way past the drainage collection material. Previously, installers cut an X in the drain material, fitted that over the post, and sealed the connection with caulk and tape. But the installation wasn’t foolproof, so the company went back to the drawing board and engineered the new collar. The collar is bedded in a bead of butyl caulk at the base of the post, and then sealed in place with butyl tape.
