David Frane of Tools of the Trade was sent a link to a YouTube video showing what he thought was a brilliant use of resources at hand to create a low-tech pile driver. A half-dozen men, some chain, and a plank are all it took to sink a piling quickly into a hole that had been dug into the mud. Apparently shot in Thailand, the clips reminded Frane of a time in the U.S. when workers didn't have access to forklifts, electric mortar mixers, gas-powered cutoff saws, and the dozens of other specialized devices we now take for granted.
